The 26th Annual Martha’s Run will be welcoming friends and family back to Mt. Lebanon to recognize the bravery and service and preserve the memory and legacy of slain FBI Agent Martha Dixon. After a two year break due to the pandemic, this year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 9th 2022 at 8:00 am at Mt. Lebanon High School. Wolf Creek Race Management has taken over management duties from The Martha Fund for the 2022 event. The Martha’s Run 10k features a challenging course through the hills of Mt. Lebanon. For community members looking for a shorter distance, Martha’s Run events also include a 1 mile run/walk open to all ages and kid’s dash. Registration is now open for all distances.
Why Should I Run?
Martha’s Run is the main fundraising effort for The Martha Fund, a charitable organization dedicated to preserving the memory of slain FBI Special Agent Martha Dixon. On November 22, 1994, an armed gunman entered the FBI Washington Field Office and opened fire, injuring one and killing Martha, FBI agent Mike Miller, and DC Police Sergeant Hank Daly. After Martha’s passing, her family channeled their grief into efforts to continue her two passions, running and children. Since 1995, The Fund has honored the memory of Martha Dixon by hosting family-oriented public events and funding the construction and renovation of over 20 playgrounds in the Pittsburgh area. The Fund continues to support playground projects in Pittsburgh.
Honoring Law Enforcement
The Martha Fund recognizes the bravery of law enforcement officers and their families and has made a point to honor officers in the community each year. In 2009, Martha’s Run “Law Enforcement Awards” were renamed the “Sam Hicks Memorial Awards”, in honor of fallen FBI Agent Sam Hicks, who was slain on Nov 19, 2008 while serving a warrant in Allegheny County. Each year, many law enforcement officers attend the race as a show of support.
The three registration options include a 10K, 1 mile memorial walk/run, and kids’ dash. Participants can register online through April 9, 2022. Registration opportunities will also be available on race day at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.
